Description
The RV-3028-C7 is a CMOS real-time clock/calendar module with an automatic backup switchover circuit and is optimized for extreme low power consumption. It provides full RTC function with programmable counters, alarm, selectable interrupt and clock output functions and also a 32-bit UNIX Time counter. The internal EEPROM memory hosts all configuration settings and allows for additional user memory.
The RV-3028-C7 RTC module combines key functions with outstanding performance in an ultra small ceramic package:
RTC module with built-in 32.768 kHz ?Tuning Fork? crystal oscillator
Counters for seconds, minutes, hours, date, month, year and weekday
32-bit UNIX Time counter
Automatic leap year correction: 2000 to 2099
Aging compensation with user programmable EEPROM Offset value (Factory Calibrated value may be changed by the user)
Periodic Countdown Timer Interrupt function; interrupt output also in VBACKUP Power state
Periodic Time Update Interrupt function (seconds, minutes); interrupt output also in VBACKUP Power state
Alarm Interrupts for weekday or date, hour and minute settings; interrupt output also in VBACKUP Power state
Factory calibrated time accuracy: ± 1 ppm @ 25°C (EEPROM Offset value may be changed by the user) 32.768 kHz Xtal frequency accuracy: ± 5 ppm @ 25°C
43 bytes of user EEPROM
Configuration registers stored in EEPROM and mirrored in RAM
I2C-bus interface (up to 400 kHz)
Wide interface operating voltage: 1.2 to 5.5 V
Wide Timekeeping voltage range: 1.1 to 5.5 V
Extreme low current consumption: 40 nA (VDD = 3.0 V, TA = 25°C)
Ultra small and compact C7 package size (3.2 x 1.5 x 0.8 mm), RoHS-compliant and 100% lead-free
and more (see Datasheet)
This breakout board is equipped with two Qwiic compatible connectors (JST SM04B-SRSS-TB), this makes it compatible and daisy-chainable with the SparkFun’s sensors and with the Adafruit Stemma QT sensors.
This breakout board is compatible with 3.3V and 5V, power and logic.
We developed two libraries, in Python 3 for the Raspberry Pi and in C++ for the Arduino IDE (available for download directly on the Arduino IDE Library Manager or manually on our GitHub page). Both the libraries support communication over I2C, Interrupts on pin INT and function to program and read the internal EEPROM.
Check out schematics and application manual for more technical specs.
On GitHub you’ll find quick instructions to connect the sensor and test the software, for both Raspberry Pi and Arduino.
Pinouts:
3V3: Input power pin
GND: Ground pin
SDA: I2C Serial DAta pin
SCL: I2C Serial CLock pin
EVI: External Event Input, pulled high (see schematics for more details. This pin is not supported in our library)
INT: Interrupt Output, active LOW, pulled-high (see schematics for more details)
We also include a silver oxide battery SR621SW, with a nominal capacity of 23mAh, that will keep the RTC running when the main power is off. Ideally this battery is enough to power the RV-3028 for years (note: the battery shelf-life is three years).
Dimensions:
25.0mm × 25.4mm x 4.45mm(max height)
This product was conceived for prototyping. Any liability of the manufacturer in the event of a different use is excluded.
